Rev counter problem

Good morning all,

My a3 year 2000, has encountered a problem on the rev counter, when the car is idling the needle sits at 0 rpm, the car itself runs fine nothing out of the norm.

i've had it plugged in and none of the sensors are showing faulty, the mechanic is abit stumped, would it be a new instrument cluster? any help would be greatly appreciated

if you have access to vcds you might be able to do an accutator test the needle..

Sounds like rev counter motor packed up, quite a common fault. I can repair these if you post to me. pm for details.
