That is better than I used to get with my B5 Passat 2.8 V6 (Audi engine) over its entire 87K/13 years life from new in my ownership. Possible reasons for that were said to be, ignoring it being an engine designed to "use" oil, - problem with the way the piston rings were getting loaded into a hopper at the factory, delinquent employee deliberately roughly lining up the gaps!! OR - engine not run-in "energetically" enough, that one I could believe as I gently ran my car home after collecting it over 1000 miles from home. Now this current car, S4, I bought at 2.5 years old and 12.5K miles, needed all its discs replaced when it was in for its inspection at 2 years old, so maybe it was run-in "energetically" and so now does not use much oil. Conversely, benjie, your car may have been treated with too much respect when new, so uses a bit of oil now. I think the deliberate cross hatching in the bores is meant to enable "good" bedding in of the rings<>bores during the running in period.
