You washed a courtesy car? That's dedication to the brand! I have a white BE last month... lovely but gutless.

Taking the OH's Passat in to VW for a bit of warranty work tomorrow and I was offered an up! for the day... Needless to say, I'm walking the 4 miles home.

This what Belfast Audi gave you shaun? Why did it take so long to do a service?

Yea thats what I got Aaron, lovely car to drive now! :) ... Car is getting serviced today just suited me better to drop of yesterday evening! :)

I still think you're mad for leaving it to the dealership to service it lol

Please forgive me for hijacking this but; BrennanTDI i have not seen anyone talking about servicing away from main dealers on any of the forums i look at for a while.
I won't go in to details but i've just had another disappointment after taking mine to main dealer for "inspection service" (turn off the light, grease the pan sunroof and "do paintwork inspection").
I have the oil changed elsewhere out of ****** mindedness but HAD to take it for the "inspection service".
What do others on here do? Do you take it to main dealer to preserve your FASH? Would you pay more for a car with FASH?
Anyone else here think that FASH make a car more of a liability?

Cheers

As much as I like Belfast Audi, I still have no faith in dealership network servicing.

I was stung before with this and vowed never to go back. I always take my car to an independent manufacturer specialist, I feel this is a more personal, one to one service where I can ask about any queries I have and not to mention the savings that can be had through being a loyal customer

FDSH does not bother me in the slightest, as long as the car has had a independent specialist working on the car then I'll be happy, personally this has more value to me.

I also never take my car to the dealership to be serviced. A good mate does mine using genuine parts and charging the minimum.

Suppose its down to your personal preference, they were doing a good deal on the timing belt and water pump so I went for it! Belfast Audi service is good I don't have any complaints with them. . Other service items I do myself or my mechanic friend sorts for me...

Im not going to ask you what the "Good Deal" was but I can only assume it was similar if not the same to the "Good Deal" they offered me to do the same thing. Jump to the end of the story - its booked in with an independent specialist. I hope you come out of it ok, even if your pockets are lighter than they should be!

I got my car serviced with them until the warranty ran out. I havnt been back since for many reasons that I am not going to discuss here. They are very pleasant though I will give them that, and very impressive building. Appear to go through a lot of staff though.

In my humble opinion, for the most part, dealers dont know what they are doing. Very worrying but true from my experience.

As said Shaun, its a matter of opinion, everybody is different. If you want Audi working on your car then by all means, get them, thats your prerogative but you seem to be in the minority.

This makes interesting reading.

Survey says more people trust independents than dealers for car repairs... do you? [w/poll] - Autoblog

Thanks for the link Aaron!

I trust independents more than main dealers, there's a financial element in there for me too. That said, I now own an S4 which is a performance estate car with endless control modules and an engine that is, for now at least, relatively rare (when compared to the 1.6/2.0TDI that The Group insist in putting in almost every Group model), so I'm happier paying the premium to get the manufacturer to service it. I've got a pretty good relationship going with my dealer I think. That said, I think it's silly to be blinded by the dealer stamp. For example, my DSG oil is due for a change in the next 6 months and I'll be going to MRC for that as I want both oils and the filter changed.

I just re-read my post and it looks like I'm putting down the 1.6/2.0 TDIs. I'm not, my OH has a Passat with the 143 engine and it's brilliant. Got near 900 miles from the last tank (I think, it took over a month!)

I have never taken my cars to dealerships. Always indepandant and the same one as a matter of fact which has meant I get a pretty good discount. Generally pay about 50% less than what a dealership would charge if not more

I called round a few independents for my latest service. All as in each and every one came back more expensive than my local Audi garage. I double checked what I am getting from Audi, inspection, oil, filter, pollen filter and brake fluid change £226 all in. The nearest an independent could get to that was £300.

Go figure. Anyway when it comes to 'good will' should anything go wrong the Audi dealership will be much more likely to assist you in my opinion if its been Audi dealer serviced.

For work like cam belt and water pump I don't see why anyone wouldn't put it to Audi.
Expensive yes but worth the comeback if anything went wrong.
I personally use Audi for all my servicing and don't find it that expensive.
Plus things like a courtesy car are a plus for me

Like you all with my previous Audi I always got it serviced at my independent specialist and likewise had no problems and received a good service and I got my stamp too so it kept the service history good.

My new B8 S-Line is still under my approved warranty and I wanted to keep things right. Audi seem to be trying to compete lately with local mechanic shops as their prices seem competitive in areas.

With such a vital part of the engine "Timing Belt and Water Pump" I wanted to get Audi to complete to keep things right and if there are any problems as riggs and robbie said they might be more likely assist.

I didn't expect this thread to turn into a full discussion about Audi servicing and the fact I felt I need to explain why I choose to go to Audi.

Well I have to confess that I once had a Passat TDI, about one month old, as a courtesy car from insurance company while my Passat 4Motion was in to get a new overbumper - third party paying. Its dashboard was covered with threatening notices about what would happen if I smoked in it or left it needing valet'd - that car looked and smelt as though it had had 4 chain smoking idiots in it for all of its short 3 weeks from new! Took it home and left it there, smelly bus to work took longer but was a "nicer" place to spend some time! Problem was it was supplied by one of these "accident management" companies - and they are all dumb heads!

In the happy days I had lease cars, when I had VWs (Passats) then I was given a Polo as a CC, assuming I could actually get one - on changing to Audi, I never had anything "less" than the A4s I drove in those days, and usually something bigger or better. It's part of the way they differentiate the brands, and also seen as good marketing.

They give you a nice car yes but they don't tell you about the abuse and neglect they're giving your car!!

Sorry for derailing your thread Shaun. I used to think the same way as you and would not have dared to take my car anywhere other than the dealer. Who knows their own brand better I thought. Live and learn and all that. But hopefully you will have no issues with your belt and pump change

I dont think anyone meant to aggravate you Shaun, no point in getting too hung up about it. When people feel so strongly about a matter they will express. Like i said each person is different, as long as the person working on the car has had many years of experience in the brand then thats the most important thing.

With regards to courtesy cars, i've had various different Insignias, one in particular was very nice indeed, a bright red SRi diesel with VXR kit and 20inch wheels. I liked it so much that i washed it most of the days i had it and even slicked the tyres. Lovely motor for a Vauxhall, but was shocking sore on juice lol
