Hi there guys. Im having issues with one of my number plate lights not working and im not the best with taking things apart and was wondering if there was anyone local to Slough that could give me a hand!! Probably would need changing the whole unit. Would be willing to pay aswell, just dont fancy going to a garage who will bump me right off!!

Cheers!! Sunny

Hi Sunny, firstly welcome to the forum.
The number plate light unit is very easy to remove/relocate, only minor issue is the tiny screw holding the units in place, they tend to round off so would probably be best to replace those. More than like just a bulb, but sometimes the contacts just need a wee clean.

Hi, Sunny

Macdoon is spot on, both with the welcome (which I endorse) and the advice on how to check your number plate light. Each light is a single assembly retained in place by one small (and rather soft) cross-headed screw. Most likely fix is a blown bulb, but an all-round clean of the contacts will help too.

Your friendly neighbourhood Audi dealer will supply the screws separately, so if you do need new ones after removing and fixing your light, it shouldn't be a problem.

Hi guys. Thanks for the replies. Ive replaced the bulb and cleaned the contacts but still nothing. What would I do next. This one light not working really annoys me :(

Oh dear, that does sound like you have more of a problem. Where are you based? Knowing where you are might mean we can steer you in the direction of a forum member near you who's more technically-minded.

I know. I wish I had more of a clue on what to do! Im based in Slough, Berkshire. Even West London is fine also.

Sorry, just realised, you said Slough in your first post. Well, hopefully, one of our more technically-gifted members will read this and be able to offer some more information.

One though does occur; if you decide you need to get it looked at professionally, are you familiar with Fontain? It's a non-franchised independent Audi specialist based in Iver. I've bought three out of the four Audis I've owned from them, and they've done work for me as well.

They're good and their labour rates won't break the bank like a dealer's will.

I am familiar with them. I actually rang them and asked how much it would roughly cost. First he said £75+VAT for checking any loose connections and then if the whole unit needed to be replaced then it would be a couple of hundred pounds. Does that sound right?

Hi Sunny and welcome to the forum!

Sounds like you're having trouble getting power to the unit for some strange reason. Check power from the wires going to the units first. If that is OK then it will probably be the units which need replacing. I would suggest LED units if that is the case. Alot of users run them on here and they also give the car a more modern look too.

All the best, Azeem.

Hi Azeem, it may be the power as I purchased LED units and even tried them and it wouldn't work so clearly cant be the existing ones either. I dont have a clue how I would be checking the power going from where :( I am clueless at these things.

Funny enough my instrument lighting setting was on low and I turned it to full and straight away it worked!! How wierd. Since then it has not ever happened again!

Had a similar issue with mine, lost numberplate lights, fog lights and interior boot light. Traced the fault to a broken earth in the boot. Don't know if that helps.

Solved mine!
One of the lights was not connecting, after a little bit of fiddling I managed to get a circuit.

Still no power though so disconnected the battery for 15 minutes. BOOM!! i now have 2 working number plate lights.
