ok guys so iv just bought myself a 51 plate s3 as my Astra gsi was written off so i will have a couple of grand to spend on the s3 with my car payout, once iv done the basics service and anything that needs doing, Il be looking to up the power a bit , id like to see close to 300bhp what mods do yous recomend cheers

a stage 1 with a B5 Turbo intake pipe is the best bang for buck, complete with a healthcheck/rolling road at a reputable tuner.

following those two bolts ons a 3 inch downpipe and a front mount intercooler power wise will take it to stage 2 and around 270bhp.

i would be more inclined following the stage 1 mods above, to spend any extra money on the suspension/chassis. Coilovers or shocks n springs, and a set of R32 anti roll bars on poly bushes really sort this big fat car out.

thanks for the advice mate think Il start looking for suspension and roll bars any particular coilovers ?
what about exhaust , should i go for a 3" turbo back
what kind of power do u reckon with a stage 1 and intake ?

all depends on budget mate
you say a couple of grand which wont get you 300bhp
id do as karl says
ap coilovers are 500 ish
the arb most use r32 rear only they are 100 odd
turbo back exhaust will be 700-800 ish
map only go custom!
badger 5
r tech 300 ish
b5 tip and filter is over 200 i believe
and you will need rear tie arms if you go more than 20mm drop they are 200 min

car will handle much better
pull much better

cant really go wrong with any of the big names on coilovers/shocks/springs. Eibach, weitec, KW, koni, AP etc. Just know coilovers tend to be a bit more firmly sprung, i don't know what you're used to. Budget around £500

at stage 1 power levels you wouldn't really need a catback, the benefits are in the 3 inch downpipe/decat/cat. Relentless and pipeworx are your choices, and start from about £300

remaps are about £3-350 i think. Depends where you are located as to who people will recommend.

antiroll bars are available from any VW dealer. Rear is 19mm (vs stock 14mm) and is if i remember about £110 including all bolts/clamps/bushes.
The front is 21 or 23mm (vs stock 19mm) and is £140 including everything.

as Dan says the B5 intake is about £200, i cant remember exactly been a while since i bought one. And that combined with the map is the real game changer on these cars. People have had +20hp with one of these.

all in all that's about the best ~£1700 you could spend on these cars and have a good base to work from.
all in my opinion of course.

prior to all this its always wise to have a specialist check out the car and make sure things are as they should, as a first time owner is less than familiar.

thanks Karl ,brakes and suspension are always the first on my list anyway so Il deal with that, then where can i buy the b5 intake iv had a look for it but no joy,
so isit basically from the turbo to the cat that i should replace with 3" pipe then leave cat back as standard atm
Also in based near Glasgow where would be the best place for a custom map i know Il need to travel a bit cheers

You can purchase the pipe from badger5, on his website, via phone or through his ebay shop. Googling B5 TIP should give plenty of results!

the downpipes come with either a cat or decat and replace the stock cats, theyre designed to mate up to the stock exhaust.

im not familiar with anywhere that far north, but i only know of one place and that's Brotek, he's a member/vendor on here, im not entirely sure where in Scotland he is though.

yeh the downpipe will be turbo to cat back part
you can either go decat or sport cat

ive never heard it myself but ive heard an uprated downpipe with oem cat back sounds poop
but the cat back part itself wont be restriction at stage 1 levels

i must be getting a delay to these rwplies your post wasnt there when i did mine lol
sorry for echoing in lol

this is true
they sound like hair dryers its such a downer lol

I would spend £50 or so on a catch can and vac lines and get rid of all that horrible crap under the inlet manifold. Boost leaks galore.
There is an awesome guide in the stickies.
