noticed a little whining sound approx 2 days ago. Drove home from london to essex about 40 miles. This morning i go to start my car and heard a chingggg sound. opened the bonnet to find the alternator pulley on the chassis leg and roller bearing parts everywhere. hope it hasn't damaged my engine in any way. How hard is it to remove and change it for a used one. tight on money because of xmas. any help much appreciated

You don't need to replace the entire alternator. You can buy a replacement freewheel pulley. Seach for vag alternator pulley replacement on Google loads of information. Hope this helps

You do need a special tool to remove and replace the pulleys though.
