Ford Focus RS (2016)

I thought they'd only said it will be in excess of 320bhp but haven't confirmed a figure yet?

Wouldn't be surprised if this is knocking on the door of 340/350 with an official Mountune package (preserving your dealer warranty!) taking it to 380+
No they stated it is more than 316bhp and torque 'increased' over the mustang's 320lb ft.

And 317 is more than 316, all I was trying to point out that making claims of the car knocking on the door of 340/350 is a tad premature...

Why would I be 'worried'. Class, elegance, sophistication Vs. Boy racer-mobile.

Have you actually driven the new rs then?
Nope, driven mk1 & mk2 Rs focus, sure it'll be a great car, just don't think its special enough, just looks like at St with different body kit.

I had an RS before my current car and it was immense. I had the warranty friendly Moutune upgrade and it was obviously quick but really struggled in the damp and did attract bad attention from all quarters. I have never been able to capture that feeling of driving that car fast. The new one looks okay but prefer the S3 and am sure the S3 will be a much better all rounder, more comfortable etc.

Great car for the money though.

The new RS looks proper hard to me. Some interesting styling touches. OK it's got the blue oval but Ford do know how to produce classic sports models.

Loved owning a GTE

And after that a GSi

Sort of expected..4WD, 300+ bhp, only way to compete with VAG & A45, then theres the new Civic R coming out, but thats gone a bit quiet??

I secretly wanted the previous Ford RS based on looks alone! But manual and FWD, no thanks. The presence of the current RS is just awesome; the S3 is like Mogwai; cute, cuddly and easy to get on with, the RS is the mutated gremlin!

I still get RS's speeding up my backside, they always "win" because I stick to my speed and let them pass.

If an owner is worried about a new car competing with the S3 then you are in denial because there are already better and faster cars available.

Well I was super impressed. Watched the video all the way through.
To me the RS3 should not only be special, which it is but should look special too. Like the top of the line should. Look at others top of the range sports cars, the M3 and M4, even the R400 Golf, the quick Renault's not to every ones taste but they do look special. The Focus RS has wider front and rear arches, it looks powerful and distinctive, the offering from Audi looks low rent even compared to other Audi RS models. This may be to some peoples taste.

I'll definitely be booking a test drive, but I think its wider than a standard single garage door. Unless I change the garage for big wide one.

I'd be too embarrassed to even be seen in one. It's a Ford, so Ford dealers and Ford interiors, oh and it looks totally chavtastic. A certain type of person will love it mind. I expect Basildon will be overrun with them... for example, my brother, Essex Geezer of the Year. He's got zero taste, wears more bling than 80's rapper and is the world's biggest boy racer. He's got the current RS (which can't stay with my S3 I might add) and is chomping at the bit to order the new one. Each to their own I suppose.

Whilst I also agree that the RS is a bit too 'shouty' for me, it does at least have the right number of exhausts for a 4-pot... ;)

I bet if you parked the new RS next to an S3 in a shopping mall the biggest crowd would be around the RS. If you parked an S3 next to my car in the same mall no-one would be able to tell the difference...

Really? Get over yourself. I like my A3, it's a quality product that I expect to last a good many years, but I was very close to buying a Focus Titanium X - also a quality product. The Audi was largely my Wife's choice and we bought it after doing our research and finding they were both largely the same monthly payment, just with Audi being over 60 months and the Focus over 48. The days of Fords being unreliable rust buckets passed pretty much around the introduction of the Mk1 Focus; the '04 Fiesta we've just sold had 160,000 miles on the clock, still drove perfectly well, never gave us any trouble in the 7 years we owned it and the interior still looked brand new. Badge snobbery like yours is what gives Audi (essentially slightly posher VWs) owners a bad name.

I'm maybe putting words into SilureMarks' mouth, but I didn't read his post as badge snobbery. To me there's absolutely nothing wrong with a 'normal' focus, but for some people the RS styling takes it a bit too far and it loses the subtlety the normal model has.

"Class"....?? you mean badge snobbery...lol,

lol it depends on how you as an individual defines class, for me class is a subtle quality made product rather than a 'look at me' mediocre product.

I work for GM and a few years back when they released the Vauxhall Cascada the guy telling us about it said and I quote "The Cascada's main rival for quality and market share is the Audi A5 convertible", needless to say everyone in the room gave a little chuckle :) Regardless of what badge it has on it there is no way you can compare the two!

l am a car fan foremost....l love fast fords....l love the thought of being a Audi S3 owner soon...but dont compare GM cars with Ford cars....although they are both in the same category...the Fords have the edge on build quality and are way ahead in the driveabilty front?

God can you imagine if Audi designed all its cars a little more aggression....

I never mentioned money, I just called you out on your ridiculous accusation that the Mercedes looks more chav than the RS.

But sure, why not talk about residuals or fuel economy in your next post. Let's see quite how tangenital you can get...

Ermmm I didn't!!! :D If you read my post again we were on about 'what/how you define class' and then I went on to say a GM boss compared the Audi quality with Vauxhall! No mention about GM/Vauxhall vs Ford from me :)

Hey I drive an s3... "Nice"

Hey I drive a focus.."Ohh"
but it's a focus and it's got more power than an s3 and cheaper lol

Keep jusitfying your selves lol it is what it is.. A Ford Focus

I think you picked the most Bland Picture of the A45 Merc you could find!

This is more Comparable!

I'll admit to a little cherry picking for effect... :D

That said, I did see a filthy looking black A45 the other day and at first glance I wrote it off as just another bog-standard A-Class. It was only when I heard it fire up I realised what it was.

......biggest crowd of McKenzie wearing Chavs and Max Power die hards you forgot to mention. ;)

Not to mention the strange behaviour of like they are jingling loose change in their trouser pocket when they see such a car .

Whatever effect the badge snobbery has, the S3 is far too understated. Don't get me wrong I like cars that are wolf's in sheep's clothing however the S3 doesn't put itself apart from an ordinary S-Line enough to make it distictive and unique enough. Yes it's a focus but it'll run rings around the S3 as some front wheel drive only cars do already.

325BHP to the front wheels?! Not so sure it will 'run rings'. I think the look of the S3 is spot on. Understated yes, but it looks elegantly hot. I don't want people pawing over my car in car parks.

I think its perhaps wrong to compare the RS with the S3, it seems currently half way between an S3 and an RS3.
I like the understated looks of the S3 but feel that the RS3 is just too ordinary looking for the money and its position at the top of the range. To just flare the front arches is pathetic, it shouldn't look like a chop job though but the opportunity was there for the taking and Audi missed it.
However many people will buy a performance car for its performance as their prime differentiator. In which case based solely on history the Focus RS will deliver. The Fiesta ST is perhaps one of the most fun cars to drive on the market. But I have a feeling that the Ford RS will be exceptional value for money. Let's wait and see what the tests say.
Jaypers the RS is an all wheel drive car with a very sophisticated system.

Ha.

Some will think this is chavtastic.

Thanks for the clarification Steeve. Didn't realise IT was AWD, in which case yes, it will be quite a prospect. Still not for me.....different market, but there again, I am heading towards old git status. RS does look 'boy racer' but obviously not many 'boys' can insure one!

No Veeeight that's just gorgeous, would love one of those in garage.

Cayman GT4......yeah, not understated but works for me too!

I think Steeve is right, the New Focus RS maybe noticeably Cheaper, but its really Aimed more at the New Audi RS3 Sportback, rather than the S3!!

Going by the Mk2 RS, the New one is bound to be a great Drivers Car & very Quick, but I cant help thinking that Ford went completely down the wrong route on Styling & the 4Cylinder Engine choice!

To me, the New Focus RS looks too Long, too Tall & has too many Doors on it, making it more like an SUV!
Ford should have stuck with their Styling Heritage & kept it a 3Door Model.......if people want a Sporty Hatch thats Practical, the Focus ST 5Door can cover that, not an RS!!

Never liked the Porsche Cayman or Boxster & if I was going down the route of Owning a Porsche, I would always Opt for a Used 911 instead, but I'd have to say that the New Cayman GT4 really does look awesome!
.......almost like a Smaller version of the Carrera GT from a few years back!

The S3 looks warm and more or less, aside from badges and the rear exhaust, the same as other A3's. However I am sure you know it by now but the RS focus is four wheel drive and has a better system on paper to the S3, according to Veeeight...

No, thank you for pointing that out, it was tongue in cheek, but obviously there's always the odd idiot who'll leap into a rant given half a chance to bitch at someone

I've owned an RS Ford and that was actually the first ever car I bought from new, an Escort RS Turbo and jolly good it was too. But come on, I get to sit in (and occasionally drive) a mk2 RS quite a lot as my brother has one. My sister has a new Focus ST ... neither are crap cars, far from it, but they are, I shall chose my words carefully here, not to my taste. Way too shouty, drab interiors, a lot of cheap plastic everywhere and from what they tell me about their experiences with Ford dealers, well, good luck with that. The new RS will appeal to a lot of people, but I aint one of them. Same goes for scoobies and evo's - very good cars, but I wouldn't want one if you gave me one. I'm one of the few it seems who was very pleased to see how 'boring' the newRS3 looks... ordering one in a few months. But, hey, I could always get a Ford RS and a hoody instead and save myself £15k ... just waiting to see if anyway bites...
