when starting the car I some times get a funny ping/vibrating noise for first second of starting the car. There is also a tapping noise on the right side of the engine when I stick my head over the engine. Any I dead where to start? Thanks

Have these car got swirls flaps? Are they common to break?

Yes they do have flaps.

They usually bring up the EML light though if there's an issue.
Throttle body alignment usually sorts it.
A ping or vibration IMO would be the early signs of a dual mass fly wheel.
The tapping is pretty probably the injectors as they are very noisy. That's if it's the right hand side of the engine.

I also had a strange squeak on startup until I tightened up the exhaust manifold!!
