Lovely! Want those scuttle covers but I've just checked the prices.

Will have to make do with a nice engine clean and a screen wash top-up.

The scuttle cover and battery lid were only about £18 all in at my local Audi dealer

Oh cool, I only did a cursory search and aftermarket they seem to be a lot more

Cheers mate Mine does need a good clean all i Have really done is put on some Porsche caps and new tank tried looking for tips but No One seems to do it for my model think its a awt block and Can you get Full Hose kits ? Dont think i Have Seen any with fmic to be fair :(

Well ive found out the engine in my b6 is what was in the b5
Must be because of the year mines on :(

BFB engines are in b7,s too. Apart from the rattle when first starting they seem pretty good.

Im in the process of tidying my 1.8T bay up. Quite tidy at mo thogh just needs a good clean and panels renovating

I bought a 1.8t cabby with a multitude of faults mostly down to messers with no knowledge, slowly working through them, just cambelt change and water pump to go and then im gonna look at cam chain , seems that a lot of 1.8ts suffer with cam / crank sensor fault which i wreckon is down to stretched chain rather than bad cam crank alignment, plus this really annoying rattle which only happens on cold start up , audi say its normal , i think not.

Ive currently got one. Yes sometimes on cold starts I hear a very subtle rattle and not convinced this is normal but then again im not sure what its down too. Did you notice a difference after the Cambelt/Waterpump change, anywhere? My car has 63k on the clock and hasnt been changed just yet but was advised not to change it as it looks fine.

@DrStrange If your saying your 05 plate has NEVER had a cambelt i would not start it again till it has, no one can tell by looking.Im not totally sure what audi say but ive seen much later cabbys (2007) etc snap belts on start up with mileage similar to yours. Personally i change them every 4 years on any car.
The Rattle, seems to be a cam chain related issue , im just trying to find out if the cam change tensioner is hydraulic or sprung i suspect this may be the problem , but no way is that rattle ( NORMAL) i dont care what Audi say.It just means its either they dont want to recall them due to expense or its easier to try and blag their way out of it.

Thanks Darran! This is sound advice and will look deeper into it. This is all fairly new to me as I was just used to my old stock 2000 C class 1.8 Merc which didn't ever need this to be changed (based on other MB owners and dealers suggestions)

I would be interested to pin point what the rattle is upon start up. You are quite right, a rattle cant be 'normal'! I hope you find out what's it down to before I do.

Dan.

They all do it and upon speaking to Audi they just say its normal and not to worry when i asked if any mechanics had ever investigated they just said audi were aware of it and had issued a statement saying it was normal LOL, as a mechanic of 30 years plus i can say that it is definately not normal, . I will do cambelt soon , weather is not good enough and its not a simple job to remove the front of the car to get to to the bottom pulley It can be done without removing the front but this where the problems begin as you cannot be exact with the timing.

you know how they have track days , maybe we should have garage days lol :audibash::D

With all the water and electrical problems it may be best to have an "Outside the garage and not near anything combustible day"

Ha, I think this goes to show there lack of knowledge perhaps, claiming everything is 'ok'!

Yes, looking at the what it takes to change the cambelt/waterpump, it looks like a BIG job and quite time consuming. As a basis, Audi near me (Chiswick) quoted me £550 all in. I will be looking for an independent garage who 'specialize' in Audi for a better rate and see how it goes.

I was quoted £350 at a local specialist or we have Adamss24 on here if your near to N London.
