2007 s3 strange noise after driving a while

hi,

Picked my new 8p 2007 s3 up last night, all was good but driving along motorway for 20 mins or so and could hear a faint whiring noise? Sounded like climate control I thought as my brothers Bmw does it sometimes, anyway turned it off, noise still there, turned radio off, still there and slowed down and sped up, still there!
When I come off the motorway and came to complete stop, the noise stopped and didn't come back when I set off,
It's did come back however after a further 20 mins or so driving again!
Anyone any ideas?? Ha car drives fine btw too

Did you dip in the clutch while the noise happens? That will 9 times out of ten tell you if its a clutch/gearbox or something else issue.

Yeah didn't go, doesn't sound gearbox clutch or engine related,

Wheel bearing, or poor tyres can give that noise.

No I work in trade and its defiantly not wheel bearing or turned as I've experienced that before.... It's a strange one

I have got excally the same thing with mine at the min. Its driving to mad trying to work out what it is.its a really faint noise but its there if u know ehat i mean.

Rear diff maybe ? had mine done under warranty last year, was louder for me when coasting or lifting off throttle.
