1.8t cam chain tensioner Faulty ????

Mine does this exact same thing (see link below), can some enlighten me on what it should do please ?

They are usually oil fed, with a helper spring. That looks like the helper spring is weak or broken.
In my experience if in doubt, renew anyway as they don't cost much from the likes of gsf or euro

Thanks Will, i cant figure out what the solenoid does and cant find much detailed info anywhere on how the whole lot operates.
