Hello guys,

Since last week I do struggle with my A3. I was getting strange noises from the engine and I knew there was a problem with catalytic converter so I did change it. Problem with emissions gone but noise still there. So plug it to VSDS again and first time came up with:

16725 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
P0341 - 004 - Implausible Signal

Engine sounds like a old diesel cars. Starts first time when is cold, struggle when warm.

I do attached full log with other faults as well if someone have any ideas what that could be.

Will be nice to hear any advise from you guys, any help needed. Thanks a lot.

Lucas

The tfsi is known for being a noisey engine ,have you had your oil changed recently or is it due?im far from a mechanic but I mould start with the spark plugs see if they have ever been changed?mine hadn't at 65k

I have done service myself about 5k miles ago including everything :-/

Ye mine does sound a bit like a diesel at times

Mine is really bad, I will upload video later how is it running.

Update:

Camshaft sensor had been changed. Starts now when engine is warm, but noise still there.

Link to video to give you idea how it sound:

Thanks.

oh my sorry bro that sounds ruff
id take it to a dealer and not drive it as it could go bang.
unless you have a decent amount of spanner time?
if so it may be worth checking the cam followers and valve clearances under the rocker cover.

can i ask how you fed your amp positive through the fire wall?
i know sound systems are the last thing on your mind :)

I took it for a text drive and cant feel and power lost etc. I will give a go to strip it down again and have a look :/

Cabel have been done by previous owner, but I have a look and let you know later :)

if your valves are out or cam followers slightly sticky it may not have an obvious power decrease just insure you change the rocker gasket if you open it up ... and make sure you have some decent feeler gauges.

cheers on the cable :) where's your amp installed?

Mine sounds identical on tickover and has since I bought it (it's done 20k since then!). Anywhere above 1k rpm and it's smooth as butter, still pulls evenly and smoothly. I get the starting issue occasionally, but the sensor is just a symptom so changing that won't solve the issue IIRC

Alright boys and girls, have been see friend mechanic a minute ago. 100% chain tensioner need changing. Will upload pictures when part will be taken off to give you an idea what wrong with it. Updates soon.
