Hi guys, long time no see but I've been very very busy!

Unfortunately, I was a bit over ambitious trying to fit my A3 into the last space in the car park which had a lamp post on the edge of it, went in at slightly the wrong angle and dented/scratched the rear passenger door. Its a medium-depth dent and the scratch is over a foot long....

I took it to my local Audi-approved bodyshop and the quote they've given me of around £800 nearly made me fall off my chair so does anyone have anyone to recommend in South Wales? It's glacier white so as long as they have the right paint, get the dent out properly and it looks like new, I'm happy.

I have pictures if needs be, they're just not the best as it's raining heavily today

Sorry to hear mate. All I can suggest to get the cost down would be to investigate the use of a specialist dent repairer who uses poles etc and once that is done to investigate the paint job separately. This would be cheaper than a full body shop repair. I know a couple of people in Cheshire, but no good for South Wales.

You need to sit on the naughty step I'm afraid. For at least two hours.

Hope you get it sorted, at least Glacier is easier than Sepang to match up.

I'm afraid if the dent is a foot long you will need more than a guy with a pole. How high up the door is it?

I know what you are thinking! "Why squeeze into any space, even more so when there is a lamp post there" ;) I've drive into car parks and come back out if I don't like the look of the spaces available!!! I did it last week, then had to walk 1/2 mile back to where I wanted to get...but at least I knew my car was safe ;) lol.

Think I'm going to get a pillow for the naughty step and stay there for the long haul :disappointed:

I'm usually the same! Everyone always says "why the flip are you parking so far away from the shop doors again?" or "you can drive the last mile mind" but I was running late for an appointment and paid the price for my hastiness  The dent isn't a foot long, the scratch is. Somehow, the dent is just under 6 inches long I'd say (if that). Thinking about it I think it's roughly half way up the door.

The quote I was given is itemised and says that there's loads of labour to do on the front door (removing mirror, handle, lock housing) which I can't figure out why they would do that when I only want them to look at the rear one. They also want to remove the left tail light and do a system reset....

I'd have thought they would use Welshmen rather than Poles but hey what do I know.

Nightmare. My wife actually hates me driving her to the shops as I park only in end bays and those ones are as far away as possible from everyone else! However, you always come back to some numpty who parked right next to you with 20 other spaces around you.
Chipsaway to repairs like that and are guaranteed for 10 years I believe? May be wrong on the number. Next door neighbour had his back quarter panel done and the guy made a ****** good job of it.

I know the feeling of ruining your car. I've managed to scratch up the S-Line alloys on my A3...granite curbs :(

All about equal opportunities here, Pete :tonguewink:

I emailed Chipsaway last night and the closest guy at the moment is too far away to come to do a quote in person but I'm sending him pictures of the damage later today so fingers crossed!

Horrible isn't it:sleepy:I managed to scuff the front-left wheel within a month of having it but (as a few will know), I had a lot on my mind at that time.....Haven't managed to get it repaired yet but obviously, not everyone does diamond cut wheels:weary:

Sorry for the double post... however Chipsaway say it's too big of a job for them and explained why the bodyshop would be working on the front door too....Need to try find a cheaper bodyshop or bite the £805 bullet

Bummer. Hope you can get it sorted for a little less wedge. Just as long as they do a decent job.

Dentsaway is a different company. Worth a punt?

Where abouts in South Wales mate? I'm in Barry and used a repairer here when some idiot drove into the front wing on my last BMW and didn't stick around! It required slight dents & deep scratches taking out and was re sprayed. Was only around £300 but was perfect afterwards! My excess on the insurance at the time was £350...
How bad is the damage? If you got a pic post it and I can tell you if it was similar..

Swansea mate! What colour was the BMW? My excess in considerably higher than £350 (age :gun2:) but £300 sounds good! I'll try get a picture on here tomorrow before work!

My BMW was titanium silver metallic. There's a few repairers here in Barry. Two are next door to each other and I was happy with the results. BMW probably have charged triple what I paid...

If you go to your local dealer and ask who they get to do pdr repairs then get him to do the dent work I am sure he will recommend a good paint shop that will be cheaper , or as said go to the local paint shop and see who they get for dents . recommendations are worth a lot .
I scratched my car and got my local dent guy to see if it could be removed but he didn't do paint but recommended a local paint shop who did a great job .
Good luck.

Went to another local bodyshop before work t'other day and was given a quote of £400 all in...going in the right direction but I'll try to follow your advice and source further cost reduction (without compromising finish)
