Hi everyone, tried using my spare key and the car wouldn't start. It locks and unlocks the doors and when I turn the key to ignition it lights up the dash as it should, however the glow plugs light appears but then doesn't go off and when I fully turn the key the car just sounds like it's trying to turn over. I tried it twice and then realised it's something to do with the key. The original key works fine. Is there a way for me to make the car recognise the key or is this something only a dealer can do?

Thanks

Sounds like a key coding/immo issue if the car cranks but won't start...I don't know that much about it tbh

Yes that's what I was thinking but I've seen sometimes you can programme your key by doing a few little things I.e. Locking the car, holding the lock button (something along those lines), but I'm not sure if in this case i have to go to dealers

You can try this procedure, but it looks like its just for upto 2006 cars ...

Failing that, you could find a member with VCDS who could adapt your spare key.

Thanks mate, mine is a 2006 reg so I'll give it a try.

How's the battery in the key fob?
