My 1.8tfsi needs a new engine would it be worrh dropping a 2.0tfsi out of something else in or is it too much hassle I've seen a few engines for sale not specified for my chasis but not sure if it will be worth it!

How do you mean recording?
The car has a few control modules that recognise every component in the car and continually monitors them, if you change one thing it will know and shut it down, you then have to recode it to your personal car for it to recognise that code and accept it. And the only way to do that is via VCDS which checks and changes anything in your car from a stereo to an engine, an engine ecu is is a control module that has to be codded to the main car ecu control module.
