a3 8l to double din conversion

looking to remove the middle console and replace with a double din set up.

I`m i right in the following:

ONLY a s3 8l double din cage will fit? or would over models fit? (tt)
As my a3 1.8 t just has the hazards in middle and rear window heater in top row, would i need to make a button for the top row or could i swap to updated heating controls and wire the wire to the lower left on the updated model?

i see a few guides about on net, but seem all 3 year old and pics dont load

i have to ask
mine is 1999, so is that pre or post facelift? as people say the cage number maybe diff as well as the ac controller?

Everything is different. You'll have to wire in a B5 a4 climate unit and swap over some wires for it to work. New cage, ESP button if you have one. The Indicator just needs the facelifted front hazard bit. If you wanted an RNSE you would need a harness for it and new clocks from a facelift for it to show the info on the DIS. It will also keep resetting because of the DIS.
