Hi guys,

Whilst sitting in traffic yesterday and then driving to work, I noticed a very strange burning smell coming from the front of the car.

It sort of smells like a burning clutch, but the clutch seems to be fine and I have had a look under the bonnet and everything seems to be ok.

I have taken it to my mechanic, he can smell it but cannot identify what the problem is.

Any ideas please???

Thanks in advance for your help.

could be a small oil leak and a litle bit dropping onto a manifold ?

Hi Olly,

Thanks for the superfast response....Would that give me a constant smell or would it go away once the oil has burnt, I checked the oil in the engine and that was at a decent level as well, plus nothing on the floor in the morning, so no real idea of whether it is an oil leak or not....oh and btw the smell is quite bad :-(

it would go away, both cam covers are leaking on my RS4 but there is no oil on the floor and the level seems good so it can only be a drop.

is it a constant smell then ?

Oh ok then...

Yes well it is constant as much as it started yesterday and you could smell it al day yesterday and today as well this morning when i drove to work.

did you manage to fix this? i think i have the same prob
