I have an A3 sportback 2007 2.0TDI that has a knocking from the front suspension when I'm travelling at low speed over the small painted lines/bumps at the entry to some junctions and roundabouts and it appears to be slightly worse if I'm on the brakes. I've changed the anti roll bar drop links with no success, was hoping for someone who may have already been to this movie before I go down the route of just changing all of the front suspension components systematically until the knocking goes. Just for reference the car has covered 125000 miles so I'm sure there are some components that require changing.

Thanks in advance Doug.

I think this may be a steering rack problem.

Check the the front anti roll bar D bushes, thats what my moneys on,

these are the bushes that secure the bar to the car and are D shaped

Mine was doing the same. At slow speeds if I went over some uneven drive it would clunk quite harshly. I replaced both lower control arms complete with new ball joints and rear bush. When I took it apart it was the wear in the main bush at the rear of the arm causing the clank where it mounts onto body by 2 bolts.
