This is on an audi a3 09, would a regass fix this? I am going to book her into ats euromaster who do a regass and if it doesnt fix it then I dont pay.

air con blowing hot air at lowest setting

To clarify, when you say "hot" you mean greater than ambient temperature?
You would get ambient with a convective cooling bonus from blower motor if it was just the AC that was down.
HOT air from vents on cool setting is another issue.
Perhaps a blending flap but there is scope for lots of other potential causes.
A scan with VCDS and reading out appropriate measuring blocks would be first port of call.

I had this problem , my air con switch would not stay on either , it was a faulty high pressure switch .
