Recommend a main dealer in the Yorkshire/N. Derbyshire area

We all know main dealers are generally idiots but has anyone come across one that couldn't be easily out performed by your local VAG specialist?

The reason I ask is that my car is leased and I have to go to a main dealer for servicing, the leasing company insist on it. Christ knows why. JBS in Chesterfield have looked after my cars for the last few years and they've forgotten more about VAG cars than your average Audi technician/muppet will ever know. Also I've just had my first experience of Peter Gilder Audi in Sheffield and to be honest it didn't go well. To sum up, if you were trying to cure squeaky brakes I would imagine you'd have to at least take the wheels off? Well you'd think so wouldn't you? The other thing is that when the service rep mentions to me that my car was test driven, why did I wince? I never winced when it went to JBS. Oh, and I think the new scratches when they washed the car must have been just a little 'thank you for using Peter Gilder Audi' touch. Dirty Autoglym blade anyone?

Anyhoo, does anyone recommend a main dealer that is within an hour of Sheffield?

Hi Rich,

My experience of Peter Gilder has been similar to yours. I won't be looking forward to going back there.

My mate has been to Wakefield Audi and rates them quite highly. I've also read good reports about Huddersfield Audi. I haven't any first-hand experience of either but they can't be worse than Gilders. Can they??

Doncaster Audi seemed pretty much on the ball, any thoughts?

Where did you go in the end?

Huddersfield Audi are good (compared to Sytner - Bradford, Leeds and Wakefield) as they are a "family" owned company - still have a bit of that personal touch and I had mine serviced there until it was out of warranty.

Still suffer from the communication issue of others such as phone calls not returned promptly but they are attentive and do listen.

Avoid York Audi like the plague. Doncaster have been helpful on the phone but no first-hand experience.

just to clarify, leeds, wakefield , huddersfield and bradford are all owned by the sytner group.
i used to work at leeds audi, and i buy my cars from wakefield, they are pretty switched on, id use either wakefield or leeds
some of the techs have 20 years vw/audi experiance and are good ....

ive used York audi for the last 3 years and never had any problems, id recommend them to anyone.

Huddersfield Audi were spot on when i bought my a3 from them. Also Harrogate Audi havent put a foot wrong so far!!!
