After a little advice / help

The brake pad warning light intermittently appears on the dash of our A4 Avant. Pressing the check button when the engine is switched off shows everything is OK with the sensors themselves.

The pad sensors have been cut and twisted together as they were causing the light to be on all the time by my brother in laws mechanic although I haven't checked myself. So I guess this should be my first port of call to check both pad splices to make sure they are solid.

Is there any other way to fool the system into not showing the warning light? I have heard you can slice into the cable itself as it enters the cluster and run a wire to ground, but I am not sure where this is located

I know the pads have plenty of meat left on them as they are less than 6 months old.

The warning light is annoying when it appears and the beep is worse if going over 80mph on the motorway, which was the the last time it appeared before today just over 2 weeks ago.

I can live with it at the moment and do intend to get my mechanic to check it out when the car is next serviced (in about 4000 miles) but if I can sort it myself beforehand then that would be great.

Thats what I am going to check / get checked when I get the chance

And if I had only read the manual I would have realised that the annoying beep at 80mph was the speed warning that was set, and now has been cleared

I turned mine on when I first got the car to see what it did.....I couldn't turn it off fast enough!

I hadn't even realised it was on, I wrongly assumed it was linked to the pad warning light as it was on when it first beeped at me

At least now if the light comes on I wont get the annoying beeps should I hit 80mph or above on the motorway

The pad warning will come on if the wires connection is intermittent, They really need soldering. Also the pad warning light will come on if the pad wires are grounded. Also check the fluid level in the brake master cylinder.

Brake fluid is fine, still showing at max level in the master cylinder.

Suspect it is the pad sensor wires as has been mentioned. Will check them when I get a chance and solder and insulate them if necessary

Or I could just replace the entire pads with new ones

I have this problem with the brembo pads, going to try clean the connector for the wear sensor out and should be ok then.

Mine does the same - sometimes on for days, sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes doesn't come on for weeks and as yours, my pads are very healthy.
I was told by an Audi specialist that there's a connection in the loom that corrodes causing this problem.
My car has done almost 185k miles now and this is the car's only fault, so I'll live with it. (Especially as the loom is nudging £200 from Audi and I don't know which side it is!!)

This used to happen on my B8. Was intermittent at first but became a permanent thing.
Twisting the wires didn't work, there was a break in the wire somewhere in the loom further into the car.
I'm no good with car electrics at all so I got my friends garage to disable the wiring by soldering the cables as close to the module as they can (not sure where the module is). Has the wiring disabled about 6 months now with no warnings. It's bliss

07 B7 BRE S Line Avant 80k. My brake warning light started coming on when I mistakenly got the local (across the road) Toyota dealer to replace my discs and pads. It is intermittent but a bit annoying. Apart from that goes like SOAS.

My brother in law is going to check the cable splices this weekend and redo them whilst the wife has the car in Wales. If they are fine or the light still appears after redoing them then I will be looking to do the above.

Can anyone confirm if the above is the same on the A4 B7?

I can confirm that the guide I posted above is the same for the B7 model, just done it without any issues. Passenger side kick panel is where the harness is located
