My 2.0ltr 80se has just failed the dreaded MOT. it failed on the offside front strut having excessive movement in the upper support bearing assembly, both rear disc's in need of replacement and a rubber brake hose( offside front) bulging under pressure, what i want to know is do i have to replace the offside strut as a complete unit or can i just buy and fit the bearing assembly ??? all the other faults are easy fix.

Thanks

Dave..

I have a B4 Quattro so can't say exactly what the difference is but I had to repalce my front shocks and did the strut top mounts at the same time as a precaution. You will need spring compressors and a ball joint splitter as you will have to remove the strutt to get the bearing out. Still its not that hard really but you might need a mate to give you a hand as there are some bits that need more hands.
