New to vcds

Apart from simple mods, autoscan how can i check the engine for issues ?. I have seen people checking compression, etc...
So im looking for some help and advice how to check the car

If you print the manual it's very clear how to do a number of things, i have helped a few of the lads at work because I had it. Did some coding on an a6 today

You can't check the compression with VCDS. There are lots of things you can do but if you have no fault codes or problems with the engine it's difficult to know where to start. Most common issues with these engines are swirl flaps or dodgy injectors possibly.
As long as you don't have white smoke injectors are probably good.
There are plenty of videos and info available.
