Tie rods ends upside down?

Am I silly or my tie rods ends on upside-down? the nut is on the top and the joint is on the underside. the car is lowered but I've never seen this on mk4s or anything so wondered if this was correct as I'm replacing them

The uprights are different on the S3 to the A3/Golf...
