I only have the one key for my car and was thinking of getting a spare.

The local dealer is obviously wanting a fortune, but wondered if it was possible to buy a used/2nd hand key fob and get it reprogrammed?

Ta.

I got a used one off the bay of e. Audi wouldn't go near it. Had no luck any where else so had to go main dealers. I did get the programming for £40

How much did you pay for the key from the main dealer if you don't mind me asking?

I'll try to hunt the form I asked for trade discount and got it. Go via the parts dept there more human. Service dept tried to charge me £100 + for programming but as on invoice for £40 he had to do it at that

That is weird, I was only charged about £40 a few years ago to get a new "small plastic" key coded and the missing key removed.

I think that the problem with trying to recode a used fob is, the transponder chip(pill) is only meant to get coded once, so a used fob can not get its chip recoded, when you remove a missing key all you are doing is removing all the coded keys paired to that car, then adding back in only the ones that still exist, also a new key or virgin key, or a key with a new transponder chip will get given an unused code then added to that car's range of keys.

Edit:- the way I see it, if you hand over a bunch of keys some original and some secondhand via ebay to a dealer and ask them to sort it out, then if they cannot code/recode some of these ebay keys, they will not have completed the task you asked them to carry out and still need to be paid, so why would they want that grief just from being willing try to code/recode some ebay sourced keys? I wouldn't take that on.

With the B8 the keys can really only be coded to the car by the dealer or an auto lock specialist and keys previously coded to another car cannot be recoded to another vechicle. So you are pretty limited. You could contact Mike on the parts dept and see if he can quote you for a new key, which may save you some money on the new key.But you will still get your pockets turned out when you get it programmed. Alternatively look for a good Locksmith.
