Parking Distance Sensors problem

I've got a 2005 a4 2.0tdi with rear parking sensors. Since I had the car they have never worked. I used to get a long beep when I engaged reverse but they did not pick up anything when near. Now it doesent even do the long beep. I've had the car plugged into diagnostics and it cannot connect to the parking distance sensor part of the diagnostics, it just says connecting for ages. I can get on all the other diagnostics ecu etc Fine.

Can anyone shed some light on this? A friend of mine said could be PDC controller but I want some other opinions before I start buying parts.

If you cannot communicate with the module you have a power/ground/network issue. Check you have power and ground at the park assist module.
