Hi guys

Took delivery of my S3 today with Tech Pack adv. I was under the impression the car had it's own in car Wifi or did I get the wrong end of the stick?

If it does, how can I activate it as I can't seem to find it on my iPhone when in car.

You have a slot for a sim card I guess? Is there a sim in the slot?

The car will have an embedded sim in which will give you access to Audi Connect / google maps etc.

To turn the car in to a hotspot you need to insert your own data sim in to the sim slot as mentioned.

If you do this any data usage for Audi Connect, Google Maps etc then this is used from your data sim and not the embedded sim

I did think you could use the embedded sim card, but had to buy an additional subscription from Data Inside. The Wifi setting is under the telephone tab if I remember correctly, or if not try connection manager > Wifi. This should display the SSID and has a second line where it will show the key. The problem with using a second SIM card is that all the data, including map, weather, traffic etc. gets retrieved using that card and not the embedded one, as Kuku says above. Seems a bit of a cack-handed way of implementing a Tech Pack, but this seems to be the way Audi have designed it.

I was wondering about this too and was under the impression that the wifi hotspot feature came with the car.

I tried connecting my sons iPad and you are immediately taken to the Data Inside landing page.

I've read further into it, and it seems to be quite an interesting website.
I've registered my car, and I can see the data usage on a day-to-day basis, which may assist in deciding whether to buy a second SIM instead of subscribing for hotspot use. It seems to record the data usage each time the car is started, but doesn't tell you what the data is. However for my car yesterday (9 starts) the data usage was:-
06/04/2017 110 KB
06/04/2017 58 KB
06/04/2017 169 KB
06/04/2017 481 KB
06/04/2017 75 KB
06/04/2017 93 KB
06/04/2017 124 KB
06/04/2017 400 KB
06/04/2017 138 KB

This is car-related data only, no hotspot activity.

Rates for a UK-only package from Data Inside are:-
7 Day 500 MB 5.99 £
30 Day 1 GB 9.99 £
365 Day 10 GB 99.00 £

Rates for a pan-european package are:-
7 Day 500 MB 12.99 £
30 Day 1 GB 17.99 £
365 Day 10 GB 155.00 £

Note that the data usage limit may expire before the number of days are up.

I don't think I'll be making enough use of it to warrant the annual package, but the 7 day one for when I'm on holiday should allow my wife to use her tablet while we are on the move. Providing she doesn't expect to stream any videos. Should be more than enough for a bit of email and Facebook time though.

The only problem with setting your car to be a wi-fi hotstpot is that anything you connect through it will unlikely treat it as a metered connection. As such, they will download all app updates etc. and chew through data very quickly. You'd be better getting a 3 sim which gives something like 10GB for £20

Just seems a shame to be paying twice for your data, though.

If you were thinking of making a purchase you would actually be much better going for one of these: Amazon product

Lasts 2 years (24GB) for £60 less than the 10GB on using Data Inside...

I was tempted to buy one to use all the time but having reviewed my usage I would chew through it quickly just using the googlemaps on the virtual cockpit:
"30/03/2017 - 07/04/2017: 445 MB"

Did about 200 Miles this day which makes up the bulk:
"04/04/2017 - 12 MB
04/04/2017 - 86 MB
04/04/2017 - 202 MB
04/04/2017 - 38 MB"

You can get those SIMs much cheaper at 7dayshop. £25 at the moment.
Still not impressed with paying twice, though

Edit: Didn't notice it was a 24Gb SIM. 7dayshop one is only 12Gb. Sorry :(

Hi

Sorry to jump on the thread but I've just purchased a contractless sim and installed, all fine and hooked up with Audi Connect.

I went for the Three 12gb from 7dayshop just to see if it's worth all the fuss.

However when trying to use as a hotspot with my iPhone it asks for the passcode to connect to wifi but I've no idea what the passcode is, where would I find this?

Thanks for any help.

The google map feature is pretty cool
