So, today has been annoying for the S3. Last night, got a warning flag up to say the right rear tyre had a loss of pressure (Great! I thought...). Stopped and had a look and there was a nail in the wheel. Unfortunately, I had work on Saturday (today) so wasn't able to take it to a tyre shop. However, the wife was off and I asked her to do it instead and I'll take her car.

Anyway, she gets to the tyre shop and the nail is too close to the edge of the tyre to repair. So, £177 for a new Conti AO - tyre being only 9 weeks old and under 5k.

So, then get a rather panicked call from the wife. Worrying, why shes in such a state, all manner of things going through my mind, I knew instantly it was something to do with the car. Shes only gone and hit one of the those protruding kerbs that are 'supposed' to slow traffic and damaged the rim. So, not a major issue, thank god but she feels terrible about it.

Anyway, they're insured with Audi via auto protect, so just logged a claim with them. Anyone had any experience with these guys?

Nightmare, sounds like you are having a bad day like me.

Not sure how the insurance will be, heard and seen some negative things about the way they repair alloys so just make sure it's a full refurb if required and not silver paint over the diamond cut finish as has been seen before.

Sorry to hear about your awful 24hrs mate, not good!

Not had any experience with the alloy wheel cover you have, personally that's worth getting done privately for around £60 I'd think. Where are you based?

Yeah, seen some horror stories. But, looks like they use a different company now, so hopefully will be ok. I'll ensure it's done properly or I'll be kicking off at Audi to get it done to my 'standard'.

Southampton mate. I know a few companies around me that could do it, but it's insured and this was the reason I took it out. I'll let them do it first as it's only £10 excess to get sorted and make they do it properly.

I've got the same cover. Had a claim approved with zero hassle, no need for photos or anything else. They are slow / massively over worked as the first appointment available was 4 weeks from when I called in to claim (I'm in Berkshire). Once the repair has been carried out I'll post up some before and after pictures.

Cool, thanks Emma. Yeah, was expecting a wait for the work to be done...

Really sorry to read this mate hope it's sorted soon.

There's a new wheel on eBay £340 if it comes to it.

Yeah worth noting that if you need a new wheel if the policy is identical to mine they will only pay upto £150 per wheel but tyres are covered upto £200 each. Go figure....

Were they trying with the stuff they stick from outside of the tire? I had once a nail just on the edge of the and tireshop repaired it from inside with a patch. It was double the price but still cheaper than a new tire. The tire had to be removed from the wheel, but no balancing was needed because they marked the valve position on the tire.

Sorry to hear this mate, yeah don't ye just love owning a new expensive car at times NOT......That's the new car bad luck over with so plain sailing from now on in

I was told the wheel insurance didn't cover diamond cut wheels...

OH had cover on her A1 which was always handled via the dealer with a specialist company who visit them once or twice a week! Never any issues with the quality of workmanship or repair. I used them once on the S3 for a very minor stone chip without issue, but when OH really dinked one wheel on the S3 my dealership recommended a specialist company in Swindon who in turn did a brilliant job.

I queried this when I bought my S1 from Jardine Motors in Shrewsbury, they said the same and then checked whilst I was on my test drive and confirmed the policy does cover the matt black/diamond cut wheels.

I even got it in writing so you should be fine assuming it's the same policy
