Hey all,

Getting a milltek downpipe fitted today, got a call from the garage just there tell me the space between the propshaft and the down pipe is only a couple of mm apart, they're worried that it's too close. Is this normal to have the prop and the downpipe so close?

Any info much appreciated

J

The updated downpipe will be closer because they are a bigger diameter over stock. I've read on here that the milltek is a close fit and also manufactured in China now so maybe a quality thing also. Sounds a bit close for my liking as the exhaust will move and may rub on prop. My BCS was close but no issues in over a year of driving

He has it fitted now, testing it tomorrow, hopefully all goes well. What are the options if it starts rubbing? do you reckon the downpipe could be modified in some way?

If it clears it should be ok. Most of the movement will be back and forwards if any. Haven't heard of any mods being required, hope all goes well.

Get the poly insert for the lower mount. This stops some movement

Mine came with a Powerflex mount. Helps stop the downpipe from hitting when the engine is under load

If they don't fit it for you, it takes about 3 minutes. Bolt out, grease up the insert, push insert in tight, put the bolt back in with the 2 washers supplied. Done.

Ok so got it back there, no unusual noises, they didn't fit the bush so will have to do that myself. Happy out, remap up next. Thank you all, your information is invaluable

Live in Dublin, haven't heard or seen of any. Didn't pay that much, only paid for labour at €60 an HR but only charged me for 4 so happy enough

Ouch, the last time I had the downpipe changed on my S3 it took my local specialist just over an hour and they charged me £60 in total!

The hardest bit imo is negotiating the oem first cat out and down lol - we used all sorts of angles.

My lad was saying the same, having to undo the prop and then fit the new downpipe was a pain in the *** he said

Sorry to jump on your thread but seems pointless starting a new one... ive recently fitted a milltek downpipe. Went for a service and notice it now has nothing keeping it in place (the bit what goes into the bushes. I just presumed the original went back on but when i looked at the old downpipe the hanger bit is welded on. Do milltek do they? I cant hear no noises of the downpipe moving etc but theres evidence underneath that it is

Yeah there is a hanger, just before the cat, you should give them a shout and see what there after doing with it.
