Help! Engine rattle!!

Hi everyone hoping for some help.
Iv bought my s3 amk of a friend that was stood for a good 6 months, started up fine with a new battery, I serviced it and just had belt and pump done it ms running great but when I let of the throttle (at low speed can hear it more) there's a rattle noise, it's not a tapping sound but I can't fully describe it very well, sounds like it's coming from the passenger side part of the engine? Hope someone can give me some good news and tell me it's an easy fix?

Just been out in it again it sounds like a deep plasticy rattle?

I would start with a scan mate.

Could be a number of things.

Timing chain tensioner
Timing belt tensioner
Bottom end bearing
Bent rod
Faulty auxiliary unit

Obviously none of them are a good problem but I hope it's an easy fix for you mate but I would start with a scan

Cheers Sam appreciate it at least iv got a couple of things to rule out, will get it plugged in tomorrow and start there, fingers crossed

Faulty VVT makes a brrrrrrraaat noise as you let off the throttle and revs drop... you can usually force it to happen from idle just blipping the throttle to 2k or so
