What have you done to your A3 (8p) this week

Bank 2 Sensor 1 Lambda Sensor replaced and all Plugs changed

Was having issues with excessive fuel consumption and rough Idle at times.
No CEL so checked through various things. Noticed in my Logs that my long term fuel trims were stuck at 4.5%Idle and 25%Partial WTF!

Cleared the trims and logged the voltage on the pre cat Lambda sensors generally they should read about the same.
Saw that Bank 2 Sensor 1 was way off from Bank 1 Sensor 1. Sometimes it stuck with a reading of 1.991V and not as responsive as the Bank 1 sensor.
Pulled plugs 4,5,6 on Bank 2 and they were back as carbon. 1,2,3 were perfectly fine. Cleaned up 4,5,6 as much as I could of carbon and put them back in.
Couldn't find any pre sensor exhaust leaks on Bank 2. No vaccum leaks either.
Could be the injectors but no way for me to physically check that.

Took an educated guess that it was most likely the Lambda sensor so had a garage source and fit a new one for me.
New sensor much better no weird voltage stickiness and tracked very close to bank 1 readings.

Changed all the plugs over for new ones for good measure and that did the trick.

Car is going in for the big one on Saturday (Timing Chains & Guides, DMF and Schrick Cams because what the hell). Probably get them to check for any exhaust leaks as well as the injectors while the intake is off.

I'll let that settle a few months and probably head to Stealth for a remap with all the changes.

Expensive year but hope for smooth sailing for the next few years on it.

Would recommend a good engine clean out if you have Carbon build up , recently got my Tsfi Walnut cleaned and what a difference to performance it has made already

Good idea. I will see if they can do it as well if the valves need it. Not sure if the 3.2L valves will be as carbonised as your Direct Injection engines.

Worth a shout if they can do something like that after all the other cash you have spent

Started building my quad projector etched lenses today, my dremel has never worked so hard!!!

Still need to do passenger side and get the insides painted black to match the shrouds.

So little time at the moment, probably be another 6 weeks before I get it all finished!

Cheers, got a few bits from @t8ups. Seriously quick delivery from him.
Headlights are brand new, got a good discount from Car Parts 4 Less. I spent months looking around for a decent secound hand pair but decided to go for new ones in the end. Going to put my old ones in the wife's A3 that I upgraded a few years ago. That should stop her wanting to drive my car at nights now :thumbs up:

I did see the orders coming through @Robin Chandler and I was trying to work out what you was upto, now I know. Great work and hats off for doing it yourself.

A lot of members should try it, I stock all the parts that Robin has put into this build and I can also offer the lens etching service. Your going to have some serious output there :)

How would the high beam when used as a flasher work in your setup? My understanding is that a ballast powered HID won’t light up immediately (at least to full power) to be effective?

I'm using LEDs in the high beam so they will be instant on. The new LED D2S bulbs are quite good nowadays. Plus I thought that quad 55w Osram CBI bulbs in those projectors might be a bit too bright!

Thanks, this is my third build now. 1st one was ebay specials that put the light output everywhere but where it was needed! Defiantly worth doing properly, the results are night and day.... literally :sorry:

Did you have the inlet manifold removed to do it?

Today I took apart of half of the interior trim and dash and replaced my awful Audi nav system with a shiny new Android head unit.
Really happy with the new set up, it looks great and worked straight out of the box without any additional hassle or parts.

Parts for tomorrow's job has turned up, so all being well I will be busy again tomorrow.

anything specific you wanna know?
could do a video on the features and issues etc.

but tbh, ALL of the chinese android headunits are roughly the same, few slight differences etc but they are all the same thing. even the a3 specific ones are nothing more than regular android units with a custom faceplate and chinese knock off of a connects2 adapter thrown in.

Well this just happened as i reverses into my driveway. Im lucky its just the bumper.

A new pair of xenon bulbs fitted for £40 which i thought was good as they had to take front wheels off and inner wheel arch liners to get at the back of the light units.......Genuine bulbs were another £150 on special.
