So only a few days ago got back from a great driving holiday with a great car, our A7 biTDI, which both me and my wife now love and appreciate so much more.
We drove around from Manchester up to Scotland and then down too and around Devon and apart from some incidents with idiots on the road (briefly mentioned in a current Rant forum thread) we loved the whole drive so much.
I've never owned a car that cruises around with such ease and made long journeys (multiple 5-7 hour journeys and even a 10 hour drive at one point) enjoyable and feel much shorter.
The torque (tuned to 780nm) is amazing for mountain driving even going as far as staying in 7th (maybe drop down to 6th) on inclines that I'd have had to dropdown to 3rd even 2nd gear to get up in my older cars, it just never feels like it has to change down till you put your foot too the floor.
Also I'm so surprised and happy at the economy, I did some tests on the way to scotland over motorways at 2-6am in the morning. the first 150 miles I left cruise control at 70mph and it achieved just over 50mpg.
Then for the next 150 miles I cruised at 90mph and achieved just over 45mpg (sorry didn't take an image).
Averaged 43mpg on A/B roads and again 43mpg over the whole trip.
Here's some images of the rest of the journey and I so recommend going for a drive around Scotland, the A9 and the drive from Durness to Ullapool is unbelieveable and so beautiful that you will want too pull over and take in the views every couple of miles. Also Tongue at the other end of the Highlands is the most beautiful and unbelievably quiet place to rest.
