Hi all, I am about to buy an used estate Audi A6 from a private seller and would like your opinion on this car:

"Silver Audi A6 S Line for sale. 2.0 TDI. 133,000 miles on the clock, with full service history from 2013.
In the last 12 months the car has had a new cam belt, oil pump, EGR valve and rear wiper assembly. It also has 2 new rear tyres, and front tyres with plenty of tread.
It has been regularly serviced, most recently in July 2017, and has an MOT until October 2017.
There is some surface damage to the passenger door."

The car is advertised for £3700. The reg plate is WV08SHZ, the MOT history is very impressive, no advisories at all.

I read that the 2.0 TDI engine suffers from oil pump and turbo problems. Do you think that I am getting a good deal on this car?

Thank you

Am I reading it correctly that the car 08 reg have a full service history from 2013 only?

Well, the current owner has serviced it since he had it. Not sure about the what happened before him. Do you think I should buy this car? Cheers

I have same motor but 10 plate, as an estate, and so far (touch wood) nothing major happened.
Cannot confirm or advise anything as to oil pump or turbo issues you've been reading about, as didn't (hope never will) experienced anything like that either.

It is rather strange that car has lost 5 years of its history. How many previous owners did it had? Does current owner who is selling the car said anything about those missing years? What mileage s it missing from that period?

Is there any original paperwork for it? Can you find out which dealership was it purchased from and maybe ask around there for service history?
Surely it must've been serviced somewhere during the warranty period.

Is there any other entry for cam belt done in the current history? It should be replaced every 5 years and certain mileage (check service book) as rubber parts deteriorate. If it was just recently done, within past 12 months it should be ok, I guess.

If mot's are fine, that can also indicate good or bad. Previous owner could took it to he's "buddy" to sort him out with mot certificate so there is no advisories. Loads of people do that.

Price is attractive and mileage looks genuine although little bit more than anticipated (8-10k p/a for normal user I heard). If mot confirm it, than fine.

It is a great car but would do some more digging to it and than decide on purchase, if I were in your shoes. FULL HPI check is a must!

That's reassuring thanks! I am going to see the car this evening and ask all these questions. Hopefully I will be driving it tomorrow :)

Do the hpi before you go there, unless already done it.

The surface damage to the passenger door you mentioned, is it cosmetic issue (can it be polished off) or more of a respray job?
How/when did it happen and is it recorded?

Good luck with it.

It looks like the car was damaged or had major repairs around 2014 as the mileage dropped at that time , it can explain why he have service history only from 2013-14

Yeah. Why would you do mot twice in one year?

It could be the case that was written off so mot in November needed to make roadworthy again.

I would not worry too much about the MOT the car could have been sold that year, and most people will want at least 12 months MOT on a used car, I know I would.

Also as the car is a 08 plate then it will have the older BRE engine code which does have an oil pump issue. It was the facelift models 2009 onward (4 digit engine code) that does not have oil pump problems.

Fair point on mot, @B5NUT.

Glad my car is post that oil pump problem. This doest mean however, it is faultless as 10plate, isn't it?

Been no issues on the 2.0 TDI with your FL model.

2008 Audi 2.0 TDI with 133,000 miles on it. That car will 99% experience balance shaft failure and total loss of oil pressure very soon unless it has been modified with a new balance shaft and 100mm hex key.

If it hasn't been done and you buy it, take note that you'll need to get it done basically the day you buy it and budget £215 for the kit (+ £125 deposit that is refunded when your old one is returned) and then another 5-6 hours labour at an Audi specialist, not a basic garage.

As an example there is a 2009 A4 2.0TDI which just had this failure (same engine) at 137,000 miles in the B8 A4 section.
