Evening all,

So as i'm sure as everyone has done i've been reading up on the scares of owning a B6 A4, mainly the sludge issue.
I done a oil change today and poked a inspection camera around the engine while i couldn't see much though the oil pan and oil fill hole, the sparks came out and had a look at each cylinder here are pics of cylinders 2 & 3 doesn't look too bad but opinions welcome. I had the rocker cover off a few months back and it looked pretty good, i'm running Shell 5w40 and just stated using a Mann W950/4. Also attached pics of the sparks only 2000 odd miles old, not entirely sure my torque wrench is the best looking at the ceramics apart from that pretty good condition, the final one is just inside the rocker cover.

Best way to deal with it is follow this link from YouTube it’s quite involved but the results are outstanding!

Quantum Longlife III available on EBay around £20-£22 delivered, new style bottle = Fuchs oil, older style bottle = Castrol and is more expensive, weird?

Thanks QuattroCalum thats a very informative video, was thinking of taking the sump off at some point but running fuel though the oil system seems like a good idea.

I will have a look into 504.00 oil, shame i've just done a change.

Anyone tried something like this? https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/...ives/oil-system-additives/?545772081&&cc5_168

I run on Shell V-Power so really hoped it would look a little better considering all their claims.

Thanks.

Shell is only going to keep the combustion chamber clean it’s up to the oil for all the other parts. Take the sump off first and see how the pick up looks.
The U.S has some really poor oil over there, I think our cars are treated better over here. Sludge is a poor term, the actual problem is more like coffee grounds, usually caused by running hard then switching off immediately, together with the small oil capacity it’s a recipe for disaster. A larger filter is available that increases oil capacity by around half a litre.
