Hi guys/gals,
Finally tackled brake callipers painting and I think I made a boo-boo to my beloved car.
Had stands ready and with car jack started to wind the car up. Wanted to have more access to the whole brake disk and painted it around so started with front first.
Driver side went ok but struggled with it a bit. Jacking point is some sort of rubber grove to accommodate standard car jack roller.
I was not be able to put the stand in the point where I’m jacking the car at so moved the car jack slightly out of the rubber, towards the rear of the car. This allowed me to allocate Y arm of the stand at the front of the rubber jacking point. Base of the stand is not as narrow as car jack but managed to position it good. Dropped the car gently and it rested fine on the stand.
Passenger side gave me problem. When positioned all as on the driver side Y part of the stand sicked out from under the car slightly and started to dent side sill. It rested also at the very front of the rubber jacking point in a way, that the rubber started to come out from underneath the sill.
I did not noticed it until finished the job (not that it would made any difference now or later) but started panicking when saw it.
Began to jack the car up again but the rubber was slipping from the jack’s roller.
Did not want to risk the car dropping so moved the jack an inch further away from the rubber.
Ok, done. Wheel back on the and had a peak underneath. What I saw, it horrified me.
Dent in the sill (arrow on the left) and crease on the sill from last jacking (arrow on the right).
Now, the rubber jacking point was hanging out from the sill and when touched it, it came off
Is this something I should be worried about?
Does this make any structural difference?
Does it weaken the car?
So far I’m panicking and afraid if driving
Stupid me, started this when my wife is 4 weeks before due date with our second child.
