Other cars and manufacturers may be good on emissions even before this like a 2002 3.0d BMW X5 , no T charge !!
With the confusion I bet some have unnecessarily px'd for a new / newer car .
How can a 2002 2 ton ? 3.0 derv Chelsea tractor have less emissions than a 2003 sub 1.5 ton? 1.9 fuel effient derv ?
It screams emissions cheat device on the BM .
Appreciate the sentiment, but can't see this reducing the levels of pollution much.
Not many people running cars that old are prepared to pay the £11.50 daily congestion charge as it is, so don't drive in. Any contractor running an old van will just add it to the invoice they submit to their client.
Net, after all the costs of running it, i'd be surprised it breaks even.
I note that the soot chucking Black Cabs are exempt - the worst offenders of visible pollution in my experience. The, RMT Union sponsored, Sadiq Khan wouldn't want to upset the cabbies now would he...
I'm scratching my head over this chaps exempt from T charge 2002 3.0d X5
Euro 4 emission limits (diesel) , source the AA
CO – 0.50 g/km
HC+ NOx – 0.30 g/km
NOx – 0.25 g/km
PM – 0.025 g/km
Chaps actual V5C info
CO – 0.087 g/km
HC+ NOx – 0.660 g/km
NOx – 0.637 g/km
PM – 0.083 g/km
Everything exceeded except CO .
Yet using the government's T charge checker he gets..
"Silver BMW X5 D SPORT AUTO
Thank you for using the T-Charge checker. Your vehicle is not subject to the T-Charge.
Your vehicle meets at least the Euro 4 / IV standard (Euro 3 if you are a motorised tricycle or quadricycle)."
He checked it twice , known chap on a VAG forum .
I think that "checker" can be a bit hit and miss, I would be very suprised if a 2006 Golf isn't Euro 4 compliant.Just tried my OH's golf, 06 plate
Non compliant
No sense whatsoever.
