Hi,
Got a problem with my b5 1.9 tdi quattro avant.

When starting up it goes to 4500 rpm and doesnt go down.

at first I thought it was a turbo problem but it cuts off when I turn the key off.

anyone had this problem and if so what was the fault?

Any recommendations appreciated

AFAIK these cars have an "anti-shudder valve" which is essentially a throttle flap in the inlet (its part of the EGR mechanism). When you turn the car off, it shuts the flap and starves the engine of air.

If it was burning its own oil due to a turbo failure it would be very smokey.

I'm not sure what to suggest though, unless somehow something inside the injection pump as got stuck at "full displacement"

Have you checked the oil level? When the turbo went on my mates Bora PD130 it lost about 2L of oil in about 30seconds
