I’m sure this is normal but I just wanted to check. I’ve noticed steam rising off the bonnet
when the engine is hot and it’s raining and car is stationary.

The engine is fine. No smoke or anything. It just appears to be the water evaporating and turning into steam due to the heat.

Has anyone else seen this? Might this have something to do with no heat shielding on the bottom of the bonnet?

Car runs very hot imho causing steam when it's cold. They all do that Sir :)

It's more to do with it being made of aluminium and thinner than steel.

Nothing to worry about at all. ;)

The bonnets are made of steel on the RS3.

Really? Thought it was aluminium as it's much lighter than my other car. If so my mistake...

Certainly the 8P was supposed to have a slightly concave piece of plastic in the top of the front bumper that gathered water and would steam whenever it was a bit wet (so 364 days a year in the UK...)

The 8V does it as well so not sure if this quirk was fully transferred or there are other reasons there. Either way, it’s normal.

PFL and FL both have Aluminium bonnet.

The magnetic torch I use never lies

Ali bonnet but steel wings - important if you have the misfortune of visiting a paintless dent removal chap.

After my 80mile commute this morning it was sitting there in its second home (shell) looking like a smoking dragon :tearsofjoy:
