Boot lid handle

Does anyone know how the licence plate bulbs get power? I have drilled through the plastic to the left of my boot lid handle (b7 avant) to put a camera on and now my licence plate lights arent working getting error 01504 short to ground in vag com. Is there some sort of metal strip I have drilled through I cant figure out how the two pins in the light holder get power. Thanks

Yes you are correct! There is a metal strip that connects the number plate lights
