Whatever happened to all the XR3/RS-Turbo/XR2's?

But what about one or two even Closer to Home...

The Audi 80 5 Cylinder Quattro, then the 4 pot or ....(82 - 87)

The Blisteringly fast saloon of the Audi 200... (83 - 89)

I haven't seen either now for yonks...Anyone?

My flatmate's dream car is an RST. I'm currently trying to persuade him to ditch his Saxo and realise his dream :)

I see plenty of XR2 Fezzes and 205 GTIs around my area.

It's true, they've just vanished. Growing up as a lad on the coast in Essex, when I turned 17 (in 1994) there were dozens of 10 year-old Mk3 Escorts in the local ads - every week you were spoilt for choice. Fast forward another 10 years and they've all but disappeared.

Cars are lasting longer though. I think because of the improved reliability and build quality - plus the slightly strange six monthly registrations - it's amazing to think that an P-reg car is 10 years old, and that will include R-reg come August.

Great thread!

I miss my R5GTT, sold it to some essex boy who probably wrote it off in a week :(

I am sure I helped get 3 XR's off the road I went through XR2, XR2i then an XR3i not long after I passed my test, great fun little cars but I am sure there wasnt much time left in them after I part ex'd them, all definatly on there last legs.

Just to backpedal a little,

Anyone remember the MK1 Fiesta Supersport???

Am I right in thinking that was a 1.6? I had a Sport engine (complete with twin-choke webber carb) fitted in the first car I had after passing my test. ******' night mare to get insurance for - it was originally a 1.1L, ended up insuring it as a 1.3GL because they didn't do a 1.3L. It had also had a full Ghia interior fitted, didn't bother telling them about that bit!

A lad I know has a Mk3 RS1600i in mint condition and a Escort Cossie, then there's his mate with a Sapphire Cossie.:respekt:

A pikey neighbour of mine is systematically killing his second - not washing it, sticking 'tribal' graphics to the side, touching up the paint with a rattle can, driving like a lout etc.

Nova's too they use to be every where in bristol no its rare to see 1 a month kind of scarey really as until last month i was rattleing around in a F-reg 205gti i sold for £2000 3 weeks ago it was very special though

186BHP at the wheels was a real track Animal but i am just getting too old (24) to keep fixing her up all the time,

One of my sisters ex's had a Renault 11 turbo about 12 years ago.

Well rare....

If we're talking about the Supersport it was a 1.3. :o.k:

Anyone remember the Daihatsu Charade Gtti 1 litre turbo????

Now THAT was a quick little machine.

I thought it was a 1.3 lump

I thought it was but wasn't too sure. Must have been the supersport lump in my Fester then. Result!:icon_thumright:

it was 1.3, and used to rev like stink. A friend had one transplanted into his fiesta and it was great fun. Never got it running properly though.

My mate had one of these, was VERY quick yes, first turbo'd car id been out in and couldn't believe it! It was all kev'd up though with glittery pink paint, body kit etc... Looked ****, went like hell!

The GTTi used to be the worlds most powerful 1 litre engine. I remember the poster ads, the GTTi was 100bhp from 3 cylinder 1 litre engine and the diesel version was advertised as 100 miles to the gallon!
I actually had one as a company car (when we could have any car we wanted as long as it was under £8k), but blew the turbo up big time. Great fun. Some other guys managed to get 4 x GT-turbos as company cars as part of a bulk buy - I think all of them ended up needing new engines at some point or other. When you arrived in the car park in the morning all you could hear was the engine fans in all the Renaults blasting away, sometimes for as long as 20 minutes after they were parked up. - Ahhh the 80's were fun!

Yeah, the ill-fated Escort Mk3 with the biggest bodykit ever made, rear wheel drive and a BDT engine. Apparently Ford canned the idea because they thought it might put customers off by trying to improve a FWD by converting it to RWD!

My flatmate used to work at a car dealer and one of the semi-regulars to their workshop was one of these. Apparently everyone used to love it when it came in and they'd take it in turns to have larks up and down the dual carriageway.
