Martin , as a long term dog owner and allways with me in the car, I've allways found full to be the best if using 3rd party items , but a lot of the genuine guards made for specific cars in half height work very well indeedy.
I don't use crates and don't think they are really ideal either ( just my opinion).

I have a genuine audi half height guard that I don't use now , came from an RS4 B7 so made to fit all the B7 avants , fits in a few mins with just two screw clamps.
maybe open to selling it if your looking for a decent one.

I had a boot liner in my A4 and the dog hair that collected on the carpeted sides of the boot was unreal and almost impossible to get rid of. Fortunately my labs are black and chocolate so it did show up to badly.
I've got a full one in my A6 and they are far better in terms of coverage and stays in position very well. Pics attached of the one for the a6 and name of where I bought it from.. find them on eBay. 65 ish quid

She’s a beauty!
Ours is a Scottie and therefore is happy enough in the back seat complete with harness into seatbelt socket. He is also a great traveller thankfully
