Personally I feel it will be asking too much from any tuning company to provide engine warranty after adding a device to alter factory settings that were originally set in place to safeguard the engine from the harshest of conditions and abuse. Once you mess with the factory settings to gain more power, I think you have to accept the fact that you will now be running somewhat relatively closer to its operating limits. It will now be your responsibility to see that you don't exceed these limits. I believe this goes for any tuning mods one may make. Besides, if something does go wrong, how can a tuning company be sure that the car has not been subjected to other mods that might have caused the problem in the first place? This may even be an easy way out for cheap companies to avoid warranty claims.I'm genuinely interested in buying this product, the issue I have relates to the warranty. DTUK state that the unit cannot cause any problems with the engine. However, if a problem does occur to the engine, Audi will refuse to fix it under the warranty, only because this device has been fitted. Having read as much detail as I can on the DTUK site, and on this, and other forums, I understand how the device works (in principle) and I do understand why they claim it can't cause any issues.
However, I simply don't think I can take the risk. What plays in the back of my mind is, if DTUK were 100% confident that this unit couldn't cause any issues with the engine, then surely they could indemnify the customer and provide an engine warranty, should that circumstance occur. But because they don't offer that protection, it leaves me feeling that there could still be circumstances where the unit could cause problems. If DTUK changed their position, and would indemnify the buyer by providing a warranty, I, and many others judging from the posts on the forums, would go and buy this unit without a hesitation.
I then have even more doubt when I see that there are other competing products from other manufacturers where they recognise this, and do offer a specific engine warranty. Again this leads me to have doubts as to why DTUK say there can be no issues, but don't provide an engine warranty. I refer to DTUK only because theirs is the product that I would want to buy, as from what I have read, I feel it is a superior product. However given others companies will warranty the engine, my choices are therefore currently limited to either doing nothing, or, buying what I consider to be an inferior product from a competitor, because they offer the engine warranty.
Yes this is exactly one example I had also thought of.what happens if your car breaks down, would you have the time and the tools to remove the box at the roadside in the dark & pi$$ing down with rain. If it's recovered to Audi with the box fitted kiss goodbye to your warranty
Out of interest, how much have your insurance company charged you for adding this? Presumably this is considered "modifying the vehicle", so would incur an extra premium? As I understand there are no td codes generated though I don’t doubt with enough probing, wouldn’t be hard to discover any abnormal fuelling/boost, it’s a risk I suppose, and one I’m willing to take. If I’m in any way unhappy with results, will of course remove it, I should have some feedback this week for those that are interested!
Yeah, so many assume that by fitting a tuning box you suddenly become a some sort of a dangerous boy racer. Fitting those tuning devices is not necessarily about extra speed...It’s all about the risk/reward ratio surely, for me it’s worth it, I think if I’m in a postition to have an accident so bad u can’t take the box out, I’d have bigger things to worry about!, insurance company have quoted an extra £85, not too bad
Just had my 3.0 Stage 2 custom mapped, and came back with 747nm torque (BiTDi though).will have this installed in the week, will be interested to see the difference, 500nm of torque is promised, lets see what its like!
Are they really "found" by Audi though or do Audi guess then the owner fesses up. If the box is removed before it goes to Audi and the owner denies everything then nowt can be proven. Audi can say and see weird readings perhaps but there is no evidence of why that happened. All imho. You have to remember that Audi also have a TD code for detected tuning boxes, and you have to think about what happens if your car breaks down, would you have the time and the tools to remove the box at the roadside in the dark & pi$$ing down with rain. If it's recovered to Audi with the box fitted kiss goodbye to your warranty, and if your car is not owed by you I.E Audi finance own the car, then you could be in a world of pain. Personally I won't be doing anything to my car while it's under warranty.
Hi Chet,
Not great news, I really hope the dealer can get the parts in ASAP for you and get the car on the road. Not inspiring to hear that the car has developed such a significant fault so quickly (and that Audi are using an excuse that it is new that they can't get parts quickly). The more complex the electronic systems are the more inherent risk there is I guess, fingers crossed they can sort it quickly (and more importantly properly). Look forward to your DTUK box experience in due course.
Anyone else had to take theirs back to the dealer with issues like this?
Cheers Aaron
so unfortunately no updates here, as I never even got to install the box. Had a series of issues with the car, starting from a malfunctioning sensor making assistance systems go haywire, culminating in the car basically being undrivable. Its with the dealer at the moment, but apparently with these being so new, parts are taking some time, so unfortunately have returned the box for now. Hopefully car is back in order, at which point I will make the trip down to DTUK and let them fit it, potentially go through maps etc.
cheers Aaron,
is a shame, but things can't be foreseen sometimes, especially electronic stuff, on a positive, I absolutely love the thing, and this from someone coming from much faster, more 'fun' cars. Do you have a 40tdi also?
Hi Chet,
I'll pick my 40tdi (avant) about this time next week, very much looking forward to it. Fingers crossed you're not without yours for too much longer.
Cheers,
Aaron

Can I ask what the assistance systems issues are?
About once a week, mine decides that the camera isn't working and then I get several alerts - highbeam assist, active headlights, pre-sense, etc. It seems to go away after a restart (at the mercy of the computers!!). I've not called the dealer yet but I've read on another forum that there's a software update due next week.
The other issue I get is that the favourites and last destinations on the Nav delete themselves, which is annoying!
