hello all

new around here, but not new to life and its many things, I have an a6 2.7 biturbo, i have a knocking coming from the passenger side bank, my suspicions are that either the chain tensioner has failed or the shoes on said tensioner have failed, is this a game ender for the engine or can i change the tensioner or pads and life will resume as normal. Im hoping that this wont have resulted in bent valves

Bore scope would be a good start. Look inside the cylinder for evidence of contact. You will have to consider how early you have caught it. The tensioner on my 1.8t A6 failed causing the chain to eat into the cam cover and loading the oil up with aluminium which I would say is the cause of the lowered compression test values. If it hasn't made it that far then a quick compression test might tell you if further repairs are viable.
