Hoping someone has had experience with this. Got a manual A3 Saloon manual with the 1.4 150 hp engine and the car sometimes judders when setting off no matter how careful you are. Real violent shake and it's so unpredictable. Anyone any ideas? Car only has 46000 miles. Sometimes switching modes on the drive select sorts it for a bit but still comes and goes .

New one needed?

Auto or manual?
Juddering on the diesels were most likely the dual mass flywheel and clutch so not a cheap job. Not sure if the petrols have the dmf like the diesels though.

Petrol and manual. Read it could be a clutch bearing but I am the least technical person ever aha

Clutch release bearing could be a possibility but if the job is a gearbox out job you might as well replace the clutch and flywheel.

Will be either the dual mass flywheel or the way the clutch has worn I would expect, tend to change both at the same time anyway for good measure.

We bought a used car that had an awful noise when depressing the clutch, garage split the box from the engine it had a brand new clutch but the dual mass was ruined. Ruined dual mass damaged the new clutch, so we fitted both new and all ok.

We had an A4 with clutch judder as you describe and we ran it for a good 18 months or so without issue but it was something we were always careful with, went back to the finance company before we had to do anything.
