From my experience, you should get the renewal quote by email 30 days before renewal.

I got a postcard saying that my warranty was about to run out and to contact them or go online but no quote.

the reminder is dependant if you are the registered owner in the system. I wasnt, eventhough i was registed on myaudi and the local dealership as the owner. I called them and quote was halved. Bacialy, if th equote for the warranty is over around 400 and seems exptremely high, then its worth giving them a call to check. 5th year warranty should be even cheaper than the 4th. it was for me. i think around 100 cheaper.

So the price they have quoted me now that im in my last month of manfactures warranty will stay the same or will go cheaper the closer to the end of the month I get ?

what was the price? have you gone through the quote process online?
