Hi all
long story short
Had issues when going into 6th
Dash flashed 'reverse gear unavailable' lost R,2,4,6 but drove in 1,3,5,7
Turned off and back on again. All fine until 6th wanted. Same issue
Removed the mechtronic unit and sent to ecutesting for tests etc
NFF twice.

So put it back in the car yesterday hopeful all would be ok. Reset all clutch oints etc and seemed fine till about 5 miles and 6th gearnoise again and eventual 'reverse gear unavailable'
If I shift through 6th the car is fine.
Im assuming it may be mechanical as the mech unit passed all tests, unless ecu testing only test the board not the actuators.
Unsure what to do next as the car is perfect apart from this.
Thanks
James

Clutch packs on higher gears maybe had same on 530d when going it 5th

Thanks for the reply
it has done 130k but well serviced and motorway miles. My previous audis have all done nearly 300k its a 14 car so B8.5. I bought the right engine this time so I wasnt tempted to mess with it..
Is it likely it is, it does make a noise a couple of times when going to 6th like the clutch isn't fully depressed, but I though it would try and select 6th when im in 5th assuming im increasing speed?

My BMW had only 108k he told me it was like a band and the higher speeds in the higher gears wear out quicker.

Best ask transmission specialist or an Audi specialist could be something simple like oil change.

All just guess work from me am afraid buddy

thanks. Its not dsg oil ive changed it liked I loved it at 30k from new. Id like a proper specialist as everyone seems to want a few grand just to look at it. Its odd that the box is perfect, ok not perfect, apart from 6th. Then it throws a meltdown. Audi want 11k to supply a replacement mech, gearbox and centre diff. Im assuming its something simple just appears to not be the mechatronic

Plant gears in Peterborough were a good cost when I was going to get mine repaired I never used them in the end just sold as is and got the b8.5 manual.

My 530d was same perfect until you got into 5th and tried to boot it.

thanks, but was the 530 a conv auto or dsg type. I Wish mine was manual then you could feel a bit of the issue.

Sounds a lot like the mechatronic, a friend down the road with an S5 has just had the same thing, afraid it was about £2k to sort.
He lost all of one drive shaft though and the code wouldn't clear.

Agreed but the mechatronic has been tested twice with no fault found? When its trying 6th its sounds like its pushing in (if it were manual) with clutch down but engine speed not matched?

Where are you based? There's a good guy in Doncaster.

The sounds like the clutch pack, I replaced the mech unit and that didn’t change it, clutch packs done at £2.8k from memory and solves the issue.
What’s reverse like, does it sometimes find it hard to engage/move, especially if facing downwards/forward on a hill?

Update. It selects 6th fine driving but when I back off the accelerator it drops out. I hear 2 grinding noises then it shuts the shaft down. Reverse gear unavalable etc. Its fine normal driving all the way through to 7th. Launch also works. The mech selects all gears stationary and even does it driving. I'm assuming it's a mechanical gear issue now? I'd assume if the mech couldn't select the gear it would fault way before. I don't want to drop the box but I can only assume it is that side. Thanks for reading
