Coasting question.....?

Hi, when i coast in my 1.5 tfsi the bar for the mpg reading goes up to a battery symbol. Can anyone tell me what this means?

Car putting extra charge into battery.

When accelerating it adjusts voltage so alternator is not charging battery, so less drag on engine power. What you are seeing is making up for that. Audi call it Recuperation
