S3 8P 2007 115k Stock - Engine Noise

Hello guys,

Been having some issues with the engine and loud diesel like noise along with metal clicking
Also the engine seems to stop after ignition off rather unnaturally and besides when idling the car does have a lot more vibrations than I used to and in general the water pump is shaking and the whole engine seems to vibrate a lot without even touching



Taking the car to a new garage on Tuesday and would like to not go in blind but with some insight to possible causes

The car goes on boost fine but when pushing it up the higher revs in 2/3 gear I could smell in the car what uses to smell like burnt clutch in my other and A3 1.6 Petrol but wouldn’t expect that to be the cause as clutch isn’t slipping

Any ideas would be of great appreciation!

If everything is still original from factory, worn/stretched cam chain, low oil pressure on idle and worn out engine mounts. Maybe bad alternator pulley clutch. The regular TFSi problems. Burning smell could you be road salt burning on exhaust or oil leak dripping on exhaust and burning off.

Sounds like a boost pipe leak. Check the inter cooler hoses and joints for splits and holes.

You need to get it scanned to see if any codes are present. Make sure the garage is a VW/Audi specialist otherwise they’ll likely take you for a ride.

Hard to tell from the video but checking the timing chain and is a good shout.
