Sorry for the click-bait style title, but if it gets the right person to read it then.. not sorry.

Had a few recent issues with the S3 and as a result I've been playing closer attention to any little noise or handling issue.
Tonight, whilst sorting an issue with a headlight fault code I noticed some puddles under the car. This lead me to lift the bonnet with the engine running, and I noticed what sounds like the timing chain rattling.
Having seen a YT video a few years back showing how to check this with OBD11, I followed the video again and got the following result:

In the video they state that 5% is the problem area, but they have known it to go earlier at 4% and anywhere in between.

I'm obviously going to get this sorted ASAP, but that will be friday at the earliest and I have to do around 500 miles (gentle driving) prior to this.

Am I pushing my luck, or should I be ok to do my weekly commute gently?
And if anyone can recommend the best kit that would be appreciated. The car will be sold later this month once the issues are resolved, so this may add value/peace of mind for the next buyer.

Hi @Daveyonthemove - was the car up to temperature when you took the readings? Assuming so but just checking.

Mine is reading -1 which is fine and within tolerance. You’re looking for +/-2 at 28deg.

I think you’ll be fine if you take it easy.

Yes, it was at 90c on coolant gague.
It has got me here, but I've been very cautious with it. 37mpg tells you all you need to know

Hi - I’ve looked to log this today via an obd app and all I could find was ‘timing advance’. It was measured in degree so feels right but thought I’d ask your opinion as was reading 0/1 whilst running at temp

What block number were you checking?
I was using 093 for my reading.

Thanks for the reply it didn’t give the option to check by block. I’ll get a picture of the options and post but it’s the only one I could see that I think could be the timing. It is a free ‘cheap’ app to be fair.

Here’s the options on the app I have - apologies only way I could get all options.
