Looking for info on where to start looking on how to fix my beloved A4 Avant CAHA 180 .... yesterday I thought it was sounding a little more TDi than normal but just put it down to paranoia , today on my 40 mile commute at 5:56 going off the LOG, the times compare, I heard what can only be discribed as a quiet screech I was on the motorway cruising at 70 and it was like i had gone over a different type of tarmac... car seemed fine if perhaps a little low on power but i wasnt pushing it ...then tonight on my return home I started getting glow lamp light flashing occasionally and the engine started to get even more more TDi like and I got the screeching again for longer this time and still less power, I nursed it and she got me home and still starts fine but sounds awful, like a tractor , so i pulled codes , my first thought was the high pressure pump but I've taken the filter off it and it's clean as a whistle and nothing fuel related in the codes ,,, here's the LOG

would a faulty sensor cause it to sound like a tractor ? Cambelt was done by myself around 20,000 miles ago but it seems to me it may have slipped or moved and what the screeching be ?

sorry for the long post, Regards Mark

Ive stripped it down today,,, initial thoughts were the timing belt may have slipped a touch as I was looking at this in the log "Synchronous angle: -7.05 °" however all the locking gear still fits at TDC .... whilst i was turning it over to get TDC I could hear noises from within the Camshaft area so i took the fuel rail off , injectors out and cam cover off and straight away i can see the exhaust cam has chewed up all it's bearing journals, so basically an exhaust cam seizure all though it still runs.... i find it strange because oil level was spot on and never had any pressure warning.... cam case has plenty of oil in it ...... my next question is will a cylinder head from a CAGA engine fit onto my CAHA ? part numbers on the one i'm looking at are ever so slightly different .... my issue is the exhaust cam drive gears my CAHA has a slim gear whilst the one i'm looking to buy has a kind of double gear...ill post some pics , if anyone knows what the difference is for that would be great

this is my CAHA engine

And this is a CAGA head i'm looking at buying

You could do without that. I was looking at your VCDS readings, so car at 150k miles. Any closer to determining why, and is this basically oil starvation?

No Idea at all oil level was and still is perfect and no pressure warning lights, cambelt was done around 20,000 miles ago by myself and oil was done roughly every 15,000 miles ..... it literally went from running perfect to dead in a 100 miles ....i thought it sounded a little top endy last weekend but thought nothing of it and put it down to millage .... .first Audi engine to catastrophically fail on me in over 30 years of owning them and it still drove 40 miles like this and got me home , dosn't mean i'm not ****** of though
